Here in St. Petersburg, we have the heavy hitter, Green Bench. They’re located in The Edge (right outside of downtown), they send their beers outside of Florida, they’ve clearly built up a reputation.

Who can compete against a giant like that?

I’ll tell you who. It’s The Brutalist. Because The Brutalist is a great brewery.

The hazy beers are phenomenal. There is no other way to put it. Infinite Lines Citra has become my wife’s favorite local beer, and I love Reverse Order. We’ve tried the sours, and they were solid too. Every time we go there, we get a four-pack of tallboys to take home. I don’t think this place is going to be quiet and uncrowded for much longer. They have an outdoor and an indoor space which are both good (especially for Florida in the summer).

There are some odd quarks though. They have a room (it’s like a small storage room converted into a film room) where they play movies (I think?). I’ve seen 2001: A Space Odyssey playing in there a few times along with other films or foreign music videos I don’t really recognize. It is called “The Brutalist” so it has the Brutal architectural style, with all the charm of a 1960s USSR apartment building. It’s dark and cool inside since it is almost entirely made of concrete.

Also, when you first are driving there, you might think your GPS is off since you seem to be aimlessly driving through a neighborhood. Then, all of a sudden, there’s a huge, dark, imposing building. And you’ve arrived!

Would I go back? Absolutely. I will bring every beer lover to this brewery.
