Specialty Beer: Stouts and Aged Beers

Cycle is routinely at the top of everyone’s list for local breweries in Saint Petersburg. They do make above average beer, and the stouts I had were good. But a stout in Florida is hard for me to drink. It’s so hot here, and stouts, for me at least, are best on a winter’s day. We don’t get many of those here. They also seemed to specialize in bottles. One set (seven bottles) totaling $225 (which averages out to $30). That’s not ungodly expensive, but it isn’t cheap.

This place felt dropped straight out of a Midwestern hipster’s dream. It’s called Cycle Brewing, and my guess would be because of the appeal of hipsters to bikes. The beertender, with his long beard and circle glasses, felt like a caricature of a brewery worker or bicycle repairman. (I need to stress, he was VERY nice). The place (at least from what I could gather) was an old pharmacy, which was pretty cool!

Listen, if stouts are your thing, don’t miss out on Cycle Brewing. But me? I’ll wait until December or January.

Would I go back? Probably.
